SaroniteTrailSaronite Trail - Part IG.I.S.M.O Contact Report 10118/A/12 Location: Ironforge Subject: Amrita Moondance aka Wolffury Druid "Wolffury" contacted me via mail, describing that the druids of Cenarion have secured a piece of saronite from the roots of the Teldrassil tree. She asked me to provide additional information on properties of saronite and how would a piece of saronite ore end up near Teldrassil. My personal estimation is that the druids already know a lot more about saronite than they have told us and there is something in this that they see fit not to tell us... Kamakhya Wolffen G.I.S.M.O Contact Report 10119/A/12 Location: Dun Morogh Subject: Nebler Prospector Nebler has been scouring the shooting range south of Kharanos securing pieces of ore from the craters caused by mortar and steamtank shells. Amongst his findings Guardsman A discovered a strange piece of cold, green ore. The piece of ore was later discovered to be a piece of saronite ore. The ore was impounded but prospector Nebler was not detained. Investigations on the ore will continue. Kamakhya Wolffen G.I.S.M.O Contact Report 10119/B/12 Location: Dun Morogh Subject: Thuren and Kirun Thuren and Kirun came around asking about prospector Nebler, his findings and the ore. I guided them to contact druid Moondance to investigate the findings in Teldrassil. Kamakhya Wolffen Excerpt from the diary of Lilith Moondance: The fall of Vordrassil still lies heavy on my heart. There are not many world trees around and certainly the continent of Northrend, already cursed with the plague of scourge would need one there to give it some hope. Still, what was done had to be done. Of that I am sure. The roots of Vordrassil were corrupted beyond all hope and the corruption was spreading to all of nature around, including the Furbolgs. Vordrassil had to be burned and let it fall, this I know. Still, at times, I wake up in sweat at nights hearing the dying cries of a world tree, asking me "Why? Why me?"... The name "Saronite" is special in quite a few ways. For linguistical purposes "saronite" is a commonly used term for greenish metal found in Northrend. However word "Saronite", with capital S, is a word in Quel'dorei Highborn dialect and means "Blood of Saron". The capital S is interesting because in Quel'dorei dialect it means that this "Saron" is a singular entity or a name. What is more interesting is the fact that there is no word "saronite" without the capital S in any of the Highborn dialects, nor is the word "Saronite" found in any other Highborn or Kaldorei dialect except the Qual'dorei dialect... Name "Saron" is even more interesting because it does not exist in any of the known Kaldorei dialects even though the existence of word "Saronite" would indicate so. There is one name that does resemble it. This name is "Yogg-Saron" an unknown creature of ancient times. Not much is known about him/her/it. The first of the very few mentions of "Yogg Saron" date to the very beginning of the Kaldorei language which would indicate a being of vast age, possibly outdating Kaldorei themselves... Resently the name "Yogg Saron" has surfaced from two very distinct sources. First of all the Tuskarr refer to saronite as the "black blood of Yogg-Saron". Secondly, Thuren had taken part in skirmishes around Ulduar and had heard one of the dark iron dwarves there utter the name in battle. Summary of Adventures in Saronite Trail - Part IRaven Council members Thuren, Drubnubjagr, Rezag and Zarhan had applied Dalaran mages for an access to the Dalaran library. The mere mention of Yogg-Saron had scared the mages out of their pants and the application was refused... However, a young apprentice gnome promised to help Raven Council offering to sneak them into the library disguised as a guided tourist tour into Violet Citadel. The plot succeeded and in the library Raven Council learned that saronite or is not just called the blood of Yogg-Saron, but is in fact a very real and physical part of the body and will of the Elder God. A plan was made to meet with death knights and ask them for information about saronite. Thuren, Rezag and Zarhan made they way into Shadow Vault and met with Kalitari who was willing to tell them more about saronite. The process of smelting saronite and the properties of saronite weapons and armor were discussed and Kalitari warned everyone that raw deposits of the ore were so dangerous that even the Scourge smiths have been taught to "kill the spirits" inside the raw ore by smelting the ore as quickly as possible. They also learned that the skull symbol stamped into saronite bars acts as a warning (saronite, even after smelting, is both poisonous and corrosive) and as a symbol of the "killed" saronite (as opposed to the "living" saronite of the raw ore). Kalitari took the Raven Council to see the saronite mines where everyone could hear the whispers of the Elder God Yogg-Saron and witness first-hand the corruption and madness the raw ore causes in the slave miners. Kalitari tried to rescue a few of the miners but many of them refused to leave the mine. After leaving the mine Raven Council members analyzed what they had learned and came to the conclusion that Ulduar must be the place where Titans imprisoned Yogg-Saron but the prison wasn't secure and the Elder God had found a way to affect the world with saronite. Curiously enough it looked like Scourge was doing a favor to everyone by mining the ore and smelting it, thus removing it from Yogg-Sarons influence. Unfortunately this also meant increased quantity of poisonous weapons and corrosive armor deployed to Scourge troops... In the end the Raven Council members desided to spread the information and try to penetrate into Ulduar to learn more about the Yogg-Saron. |
