[RG1] Sfreud, DH/Druid Tank

Post by drodoo » 20 Jul 2016, 16:06

Who is your character?
As discussed with Bowick, my current char is a monk, Mistweaver. However, come legion I’d like to go back to tanking. From my experience on the beta, I do not at all enjoy how the monk is playing out, (also, you don’t really want a monk) so the plan is to change class. It’s either going to be a druid or DH. DH is highest on the list, and was also mentioned as what would suit your current group the best. (Either one is just as fun, druid is somewhat more versatile in terms of offspec capabilities.

However, here’s a link to my monk:
http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/character/d ... eud/simple

Paladin: (raided a little on him this expansion so some of the kills are on him)
http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/character/d ... att/simple

Priest: (old main)
http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/character/d ... ego/simple

Forgot to link my druid

note: not much played this expansion but enough to get a feel of the class

Who are you?
Matthew, 27 years, currently living in Norway.

To which Raid Group are you Applying?
That would be group 1, however I wouldn’t mind tagging along with group 2 on my monk before legion hits.

Experience
Vanilla: Pretty much the biggest noob, we’re talking running around as a warlock until level 19ish and stabbing things to death because I didn’t know spells where spells. (warlock)

TBC: Still pretty newish, did Kara, gruul, and mag I believe. (Priest/warlock)

Wotlk: Here’s when I actually started raiding, my memory is a little fussy here, but did some of the hard modes in Ulduar at least, Did, all of ToC, in ICC I did everything on hardmode except Lich king as my guild killed it the day before the patch launched, and I was unfortunately on standby that raid. (however, more than enough wipes on him) (Priest healer)

Cata: I’ve didn’t do much raiding during this expansion, however, I believe I did all of the bosses on normal mode at least, with a few heroics here and there. However, nothing remarkable. (priest/druid healer/tank)

Mist: Started out rather casual, did maybe 60% of the earlier raid bosses on heroic mode. (I think we managed to kill ra’den while somewhat current) Come siege of ogrimmar I swapped guild and went hard-core. Killed everything on heroic mode and we ended up world 21 10-man guild. (Monk tank)

WoD: been Somewhat casual with somewhat decent ish on mythic modes. (However due to personal/medical reasons it’s been a little off and on, on top of a 6months ish break until now, more on this with guild history)
HM: 4/7 mythic
BrF: 5/10 mythic
Hellfire: 10/13 mythic (Monk/paladin healer/tank)

Raid Role
Well, I’ll go into tanking here. The main objective is of course staying alive while keeping the “bad” guys off the other teammates. But tanking is so much more than that.
By staying alive I mean knowing the boss encounters, knowing when to use CD’s in order to smooth out the incoming damage, knowing when to call out for external CD’s. Carefully watching both me and my CO tanks debuffs in order to swap at the right times. There’s also the whole balancing of DPS vs Survivability and managing to find the correct balance there, tanks are no longer just a meat shield, with balanced stats and talents they can also dish out some rather decent damage.

As a tank I also have an “overview” of the raid due to the nature of how tanking works. You are constantly watching out for different things; Incoming adds, the position of the boss/adds, timers, the health of the raid (in case your healers need some breathing room to fill up the raid, I can pop a CD’s so they no longer have to focus as much on me for example), So I often tend to call out when things are happening and needed (only if needed and no ‘one is assigned to that task already)

In terms on how I improve on my class and where I find information, that varies a little. MMO-champions class forum can often be a fantastic source if information, so I often use that. There’s various blogs out there I follow. Not to mention google is the most powerful tool at our disposal, you can find the answer to pretty much anything.
I’m fairly decent with reading logs, and often spend quite a bit of time on warcraftlogs after raids to see what I’m doing wrong/right and where I can improve. Both in terms of APM and timing. It’s also a great idea to compare your own logs to other players, and see what they are doing different.
I also tend to watch videos from other guilds/players, not to mention the standard guides. (fatboss and so on)

Your Spec
As per agreed upon, I’m leaving this out for now.

Off-specs and Alternative characters
I’m very comfortable with the off-spec of all the characters I play, as I tend to have the; “you play the class not just spec” attitude. (Must admit, I'm not in love with mele DPS specs, but I can play them)

Communication
Yes I do. I have no trouble using the mic during an encounter, and find it kind of mandatory as a tank to be able to speak during one. (moving boss, taunt, need CD’s and so on)
Combat Logs
All of my logs are outdated, and seeing as a healer log wouldn’t give you much, I’m not putting one in. However, if you like me to, I’ll log an LFR as a monk healer.

Your UI

New:

(the raidframes are somewhat scewed due to it being a copy from my healing raidframes)
Old:

This patch kind of screwed up my so I had to quickly put together something to show you how my UI usually is. (I also included a fairly old one, just to show some of my WA usage) There’s a few missing keybinds, no weak auras at the moment, and skada is normally over the right chat. Raid CD’s are usually monitored above the right chat as well. My AA is usually under the tank frames. I'm also missing xCT+ (I just now noticed how little my tanking UI have changed >.<, my healing UI is slightly different)
Guild History
For the life of me, I can’t remember the name of the first guild I joined. But it was something like sacred wisdom on earthen ring. Stayed with them until the end of TBC. However, they disbanded.

Then I joined a guild called The dedicated few, stayed with them until mid Ulduar, however the guild disbanded as well, so I joined a guild called unity path, this was at the time the server first guild and stayed there until the end of Wotlk when they decided to step back as well. (earthen ring)

After this I joined a guild called paradox and moved to defias, stayed with them for quite a while and really thought I’d found my home, unfortunately that guild disbanded as well.

I then joined “wildfire” we finished all current content (garrosh) after that the guild retired.

After this I’ve been in two different guilds, Burning dawn and Imperious. I think it started out with burning dawn. I started raiding with them and tried to make myself at home there. However, I didn’t quite feel at home, and it was somewhat hard to “connect” with the group. I then left BD and joined imperious because of an old friend from PDX was in there. Raided with them and somewhat connected. However, the guild where slowly loosing raiders, and in the end they dissolved the raid group.

After this I once again joined burning dawn. Some of the same problems where still there. I just didn’t quite fit in. On top of that I unfortunately got sick and had to spend a lot of time in and out of the hospital (in remission now though). But that didn’t really help on the “fitting in/being a part of the group” thing. However, it worked it self somewhat out, unfortunately the guild leaders had to make the hard decision of leaving the game/the raiding scene. After this the raid group slowly fell apart. I am however still in the guild, but would like to find a guild I can raid with and hopefully find a new “home”

And you guys seems like a decent fit, your raid times suits me well, I’ve poked around a little and been told that you are a friendly bunch, you have good progression without having to sacrifice all spare time on the game. Not to mention I can finally go back to the correct side! Alliance! (Why or why can’t I be a gnome again!)

Raid availability
The raid times suits me rather well. I’ve been looking around for a while now, and wanted to make sure that I’ll be able to find a raid that I could almost always attend. However, I do have one mandatory night shift every other week that rotates one day forth every time. (so if at week one I had Monday, on week 3 I’ll be Tuesday and so on) ((Might not even be a problem come raiding, as I’m looking to quit said job, but better be upfront just in case)

References
I Found you guys on wow progress. During my break I’ve been somewhat following recruitment on the server, but it was just never the right time to come back, until now that is.
I have a few friends around, most of them stopped playing the game/left the server, but if needed; give me a poke and I’ll cough up a few battle.net id’s.

About you
Well, as mention earlier, my name is Matthew. I’m half British and half Norwegian. I currently live in Norway where I study medicine. Besides school, I work at a search and rescue boat, I hold classes at the local red cross. (first aid/A&E medicine/Leadership/” how to hold a class”/and presentation) 3-5 times a week I work as a Body pump/body step instructor at my local gym. Other than that I try to spend most of my free time with my better half, unfortunately he isn’t as into gaming as I am. /sadpanda

Miscellaneous
Well, seeing as I will be rerolling if accepted, I was thinking if possible and if accepted, I would like to join the guild with my monk (yes, faction transfer and name change *cough*) for the remaining time. (or maybe just make a new alt) So I’ll get to know you guys and meet you before the expansion hits.

Oh, and seeing as I'm currently on the horde side, I'm dropping my b.net ID here in case you want a chat. Matt#2712

Hiya!

Sorry for the delay in response..

Since we don't have enough up to date evidence of your performance as a tank, and it wouldn't be a good time to trial you right now, especially if you'll eventually be playing a new class - We can't offer you a spot in RG1 atm. However we are happy to offer you a social spot in the guild, with a view to testing you out if you prove to be a useful addition in Legion.

Let us know what you think. :)

Heya,
I've not had access to bnet over the weekend unfortunately, but to follow up from our chat on Friday: We can safely promise you a trial in Legion, provided you are active etc during pre-progress activities and ofc don't prove yourself to be completely terrible during those. :D

Based on our updated roster, we'll have a slight preference towards Druid tank, but either would actually work fine - In case you'd rather play DH.

Aim will be to split tanking time equally, so you'd be playing your main spec at least 2/3rds of the time (and most likely some more, to cover non-perfect attendance).

I'll be on bnet later today for more info. :)

Fantastic! :)

As spoken about earlier today, I'm happy for the opportunity and I'll gladly take it!
I'll say my farewell and stuff on the horde side, and I'll transfer over in the not so distant future.

See you on the right side!
