[RG1] Felibarr, lvl 100 Survival Hunter

Post by Felibarr » 12 Mar 2015, 07:36

Who is your character?

Felibarr, Hunter, Survival, http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/character/s ... r/advanced

Who are you?

My name is Miljan. I am 26 years old. Current Location : Vienna, Austria.

To which Raid Group are you Applying?

RG1

Experience

This is a long one!

Early life:
I started playing in early 2007 so I haven’t done any raids during Vanilla, to be perfectly honest with you my 1st ever raiding experience was Kharazan. During TBC I cleared most of the raids (excluding Sunwell).
I used to play feral druid (mostly as main tank) during Tier 4 and Tier 5. After that I started playing Enhacement shaman and managed to clear Tier 6 content. I had few boss kills in Sunwell (up to Mu’ru I think) but since I was moving to new apartment and had tons of stuff to do IRL I had quite long break and never actually managed to finish Sunwell before WOTLK .

Wrath of the Lich King:

Cleared Naxx, EoE, OS (all 25m), Ulduar (2 wings) then I had to make yet another break since I was moving to Vienna and had to pass trial exam for University. Shortly after I cleared Onyixa,TOC (HC 4/5).
My best raiding experience during Wotlk was ICC. Even though we were on pretty low populated server we had pretty nice raiding group (25m into 10m) which was competing for LK HC kill. Unfortunately we kept wiping on 20ish % and as soon other guilds took the lead and actually killed LK most of our guild members stopped playing and/or moved to another server.
Ruby Sanctum….well never actually went there because it felt like really bad content after whole ICC story and yet again I had other stuff to do IRL,so I was mostly semi AFK in Dalaran. During ICC my main was still Enhacement shaman (cleared 25M normal ICC) and later on I rerolled to Fury warrior (was in HC progression team).

Cataclysm :

Started playing cata late (just because I didn’t lvl up on time..silly me, was actually farming archaeology sword for my warrior before I reached lvl 85). Anyhow managed to clear Normal BWD,BoT,To4W,FL and DS with few heroic kills here and there since we didn’t really have huge player base on Scarshield Legion.
DS progress was 6/8HC and for Firelands 6/7HC. Managed to kill everything on HC later but that doesn’t really count. Main char during Cata was my Fury warrior and later on (mid DS HC) I started playing shadow priest because guild needed one ranged dps.

Mists :

All normal raids cleared on time (curve) with few heroic kills. My main at this point was Shadow Priest. After clearing TOT we were really running on fumes (regarding player base on SSL). It happened quite a few times that we had less than 5 players playing during night on Alliance side. Luckily for me I had a friend (that used to raid ICC HC with me) on Defias and he talked me into moving my priest to Defias.
There my friend was raiding with The Tempered Sun and I managed to clear normal SoO with them and progressed with them on few heroic kills (I think last one was Galakras). TSS was also the place where I met mighty gnome warrior Karotiwka (who was using me to farm Bones!). Back to raiding! At this point guild members were not really showing up for the raids and I decided to do Challenge modes. Done 9/9 gold on warrior (prot/arms) and 9/9 as Shadow Priest. TSS still had no raids up so I started pugging but few weeks after I had to stop playing because I had surgery. I had break from November 2013 till December 2014.

WOD :

Came back early December 2014 for a trial version and decided to continue playing (well 1st person I met in Shrine was Karotiwka and me re-subbing again might have been his fault). Current Raiding progression : Both Curves (excluding Blast Furnace HC…its kinda hard to get a pug group where players can actually focus on single target dps). My current guild is my old guild (from late Wotlk/Cata) and we are not raiding. All progress made in this expansion was by doing pugs.
At the moment I am having regular BRF HC pug run every Friday with few guys from Silvermoon and Reiny,Pharetrea and Beastaly.
Side Note: I leveled up my priest 1st (Shadow) and cleared both Normal and HC Highmaul on priest first. My hunter was leveled up to 100 after New Year.

Raid Role

Current raid role is pretty much doing anything I can in the fight to help out the rest of the team ( going on ships, kiting siege engines, Misdirecting adds, killing hands etc.) while trying to maintain decent dps output.

I almost always carry enough flasks, pots, repair bots, feasts and 125stat food (because my alts have all the professions I need) and I am online at least 1hour before the raid starts. Don’t wanna jinx it but I almost never have any issues with computer/internet and if anything happens for some reason I do have at least 1 more computer (spare parts) and 1 (desktop replacement) laptop sitting around collecting dust.

I usually watch tons of videos on youtube (fatboss is pretty decent for learning new fights) and I am reading tons of hunter related forums as well as watching some streams. But the thing that I really like the most is to talk to other players and ask for their opinions on current spec/talent choices and to actually try out different setups in raid environment before the actual progression raid.
I don’t know if you are doing PTR testing before the patch goes live but I guess I can download client again if it’s needed.

Your Spec

My current spec is survival. I am willing to go BM if it’s really needed as soon as I get my 4 set (hopefully this week since I have some coins to roll). Looking at the logs BM seems to be wrecking everything else (https://www.warcraftlogs.com/rankings/7 ... ass=Hunter) but still feels like clunky RNG proc machine. Don’t get me wrong on this I am more than willing to play BM if team really lacks Extra dps. Survival is steady damage but BM can pull off some insane numbers. Still I somehow prefer Survival for its reliability.
Current Stats : Agility > Multistrike > Crit/Vers > Mastery> Haste
Most of tier 15 to 45 talents are pretty much the same. Posthaste, Binding Shot, Spirit Bond, Thrill. I usually swap between Murder/Stampede , Barrage/Glaive and Focusing/Lone Wolf depending on the fight. Even tho I rarely use Lone Wolf.

MM is viable spec as well for some of the fights but I haven’t really played it much this patch. Changing between any of 3 given specs as well as changing enchants/gems is not a problem because getting used to different rotation is not really hard.

Survival rotation is pretty simple where you just need to keep yourself out of focus cap and keep casting without delaying anything. So my opener would look something like this : Prepot/on use stuff > Stampede > Arcane/Multi (depending on how many targets are there) > Black Arrow > Explosive. Incase of 4 set I would go for explosive 1st due Multistrike buff.

Off-specs and Alternative characters

My priest that I don’t really play that much :
http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/character/d ... i/advanced
I also have level 96 paladin, and few lower lvl alts (91-93) mage, warrior, shaman, rogue.

Communication

To shortly answer this question: Yes.

Combat Logs

None that I know of. But I guess you can find some random pug logs on Warcraft logs : https://www.warcraftlogs.com/rankings/c ... &bracket=4
For most of the fights my gear wasn’t really optimized mainly because I don’t have a proper raiding guild yet and I do get what I can (gearwise). Got my 2-set last week.
Used to log myself during ICC and DS progression while playing Fury/Arms warrior but those logs were on WorldOfLogs and they are long gone. I would say that I used to be ranked, but might as well leave that aside since I don’t have logs anymore. I am willing to start recording my logs again.

Your UI

[Attach a screenshot of your current raiding UI, and if it shows anything unusual (in the UI, not the chat box :p), feel free to explain your choices.]

http://img.techpowerup.org/150312/WoWSc ... 000439.jpg

Addons used : Bartender 4, Omni CC, Quartz, JSHB (for focus tracking), Tidy Plates, Weak auras.
I think my UI is pretty basic and simple and if you have any questions feel free to ask. Quartz and Omni CC, JSHB and Tidy plates are helping me out with tracking buffs/debuffs on my current/focus target as well as my personal buffs and focus. Weak auras for ICD tracking (it’s not shown on the screen since I am not in combat).

Guild History

The only guild you might have heard about is The Tempered Sun…left it after one year long break because literally no one was playing during my WOD trial. I moved back to Unfinished Sympathy (social guild ever since Cataclysm ended) where I started leveling again in WOD.
My reason to join TRC is because I really want to start progressing again and pugs aren’t really cutting it for me anymore. I also did few Highmaul runs and one normal BRF run with you guys and you all seem to be like a nice bunch of people. Like I mentioned before my old friend Karotiwka is also in TRC as well as some new friends that I met in last couple of months like Sanok, Beastaly and Pharetrea. Also you got me at “so this is one guild that almost definitely won't spontaneously combust any time soon”.

Raid availability

Pretty much anytime you need me. I am working from my home and I am attending online sessions/conferences for my master’s degree online as well. I do have exams/lectures once in a while but that is usually early in the morning. :)

About you

Like I mentioned above I am 26 year old. Living In Vienna, Austria. I recently finished bachelor and at the moment I am doing master’s degree in Business Informatics. I am working from home with few more people doing 3D modeling and a bit of a Photoshop work mainly for Steam Workshop. While I do play Warcraft a lot recently I am still having healthy social life (I know it might sound weird :D ) but I still do like to go out with friends. That won’t be a case for a while because weather here isn’t that great and I am kinda becoming lazy…well until Spring at least!
I don’t really like to show off or to be a drama queen. I am pretty good listener and I think that I can follow the rules with no problems. I don’t really expect to have a place in every single run but that’s allright with me.
I would like to say Thank you! for reading/considering my application and if you need to talk to me you can add me on Btag : Buci#1581 , voice chat is also fine.

Miscellaneous

I can play 10hrs of Heartstone per week if it’s really needed to keep a spot in the guild! :P

Hello Feli,

Imbajimba (Hunter) here, got a few questions regarding your application
First of all BM is not all that bad in regards to being a "clunky RNG machine" There is some RNG involved in regards to focus fire stacks and potential 2-piece BW resets, but most of the time it's relatively fluid, personally I enjoyed the survival playstyle (and the MM playstyle early wod before that) more than BM, but it's not thaaaaaaaaat terrible^^ I see on your armory you've gotten your 4-set so hopefully I'll have a fellow BM hunter to play with in next upcomming raids :)
I'm assuming since you've only just obtained your 4-set that you're relatively new to BM, so I'll spare you all the BM questions for now.
In regards to your survival "rotation" and opener there's a couple of weird parts sticking out to me.
First of all your opener seems kinda weird, especially in regards to not using explosive shot pre-blackarrow to take advantage of the 2-piece resetting the cooldown of ES, could you explain why you're not using an explosive shot before black arrow?
It also seems like you're not using the opener you've listed on alot of your warcraftlogs
(https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/vy ... iew=events)
(https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/vy ... iew=events)
For a few examples,
I'm assuming it's because they're with a pug and pugs are lazytown, but let me know if there's another reason ^^
Also, since you've sort of "skipped" the rotation part (not focus capping and not delaying anything is of course fundamental factors you have to respect, but that's hardly all there is to the survival "rotation") Could you make perhaps a short list, listing your priorities in terms of ability cooldowns and usage,
(I'll give a "BM" example:)
Use focus fire (5 stacks OR bfore going into bestial wrath OR big burst phase coming up)
Use Stampede (Save to stack with other cooldowns/procs as long as "a" usage is not dropped in the fight)
Use Bestial Wrath (Save for big burst phases, if a BW is already up and the CD got reset by kill command, wait untill current BW expires and use new one, as long as the CD of kill command is 3seconds or lower, to ensure 2 uses of kill command in the 10second BW period)

blablabla kill command arcane shot blablabla (cba writing it fully)
So a list of your abilities and in which way you prioritize them in a single target raid encounter (Let's just say Gruul) and if/how they change depending on certain procs etc. etc. (So basicly just a more in-depth explanation of the surv rotation, feel free to go into the smallest details you like ^.^)

Best of luck with application :)

I will try to answer your questions as clear as possible.

Maybe “clunky RNG machine” was a bit harsh but what I meant to say is that some people (if you have seen logs that I have posted, which I am sure you did) got really insane amount of procs during the fights therefore reaching top ranks while others were not that lucky. Just want to mention that I really don’t have anything against BM. :>

Nothing to say in my defence except Lazytown all the way, there is no other explanation. Because random pugs are the place where you can pretty much get away with somewhat decent dps and as long as you aren’t dead it’s all good. I know there is no need to skip ES and thanks for pointing that out, but like I said above random pugs are the place where I am completely lazy ass trying to get my runes and get out (and mostly doing dps while multitasking).
If I knew that logs where being recorded maybe I could’ve done better. Anyway I am glad that someone in this guild have a good hunter class knowledge and I guess that we could talk about tons of different Hunter related things, which is pretty nice.

So ill try to give you my “perfect world” priority list for survival hunter (4 set, since I have finally obtained it) for a single target fight.

Explosive Shot (with Lock and Load proc or if the 4set bonus is not up) 15% damage for Multi is pretty good > Arcane Shot (preferably with Thrill of the Hunt and high amount of multistrike) > Black Arrow >
Barrage/Glaive> Arcane shot (to dump excessive amount of focus > Cobra/Focusing (to generate focus)

So with 4 set opener should look something like this : Prepot > Explosive Shot > Stampede > Arcane Shot > Black Arrow > Explosive with LnL > back to priority list.

I would like to mention that sometimes Stampede can be delayed for a small amout of time on long fights, because of the fact that big procs are coming off CD and it should be used together with them. Also, Arcane Shot can be used in between LnL procs if Scales of Doom Proc and/or Beating heart is used(together with thrill proc)…well basically if are having a huge Multistrike buff. Simply put Arcane shot benefits more from Multistrike % than any other ability. If Thrill doesn’t proc however only with ~80% multistrike Arcane shot becomes more valuable than Explosive shot. For the other single target Abilites like black arrow or Crows…because they do have a bit “long” CD sometimes (but higher Damage per cast) I do opt to cast arcane (with high amount of multistrike, because damage is really nice) but without trying to delay BA for more than 2 sec.

Sorry for the Late reply I really had tons of stuff to finish last evening before deadline (that came out of nowhere :p ). I really hope I was bit more clear this time. If u have any suggestions feel free to poke me ingame or write it here.

Thank you for your replies!

Very nice answering :)
For bonus points, could you explain why, as you stated, "Simply put Arcane shot benefits more from Multistrike % than any other ability"? While it may not be better scaled than ANY other ability, it most certainly is true that with scales/beating heart procced, arcane shot value goes up like crazy. I'm very please that you know this, I just want to see if you know the exact reason why it does so aswell :) (It's actually kind of simple, but if you don't know it yet, might be tough one to figure out :))

Dear Ravens,
I would like to thank you for considering me to join your ranks. However, I would like to withdraw my application.
I really appreciate your effort to read my application, interview me and take me to the trial raid.
The thing is RL just got nasty and I am not even logging in anymore :( ...also I got asked to join you for a mythic run or two (on a short notice) but unfortunately I had some lag issues and other stuff to deal with.
Again I would like to Thank everyone and wish you all the best with further progression! :)
Was nice meeting you all!
