EVE Online just got a major blow by a player.

Re: the makings of a one man...
If it was one of the largest, it must've been thousands of players, as I believe some eve guilds can grow to.

Re: the makings of a one man...
Epicness. Now, if only EVE weren't that insanely boring...
Re: the makings of a one man...
I find it fascinating what things can happen in EVE. The players truly form the gameworld, which is merely a sandbox.
Note that BOB was an alliance, not a corporation (guild in EVE). It consisted of multiple corporations. So the implications are huge. (The original news i posted was somewhat poorly written on this)

Re: the makings of a one man...
implications, its a game.. so what, you have a different tag over your head?
i honestly think this is quite dangerous for people to get so absorbed.

Re: the makings of a one man...
You dont find the implications huge, when one move made by one player probably makes may people leave the game / join the game?
And whenever there are thousands of ppl involved, its not just a game. It has nothing to do with being absorbed. I dont play EVE, i found the basic game mechanics boring. "Its just a game" isnt a good excuse when you dont show up on a raid when 9 ppl are waiting for you. Consider that "its just a game" as an excuse when those thousands of players come knocking on your space ship

Re: the makings of a one man...
true enough.
its not the same as an RL corp of that size going down though. its the same as not showing for your footall teams match.

Re: the makings of a one man...
oh and, you try telling that to people like our parents generation. they wont sympathise
Re: the makings of a one man...
Yeah well, they dont understand the net that good either I have many friends who wouldnt understand it either, since they blatantly ignore anything that has to do with gaming. I wont bother to explain the social ramifications to them.
Re: the makings of a one man...

Dunno, perhaps hes to involved, but to me that gave a great reading! I like good stories, especially if they have actually happened.Jaera wrote:http://myeve.eve-online.com/ingameboard ... dID=991219 thats the guy talking about how he recruited a director from the bob thing. thats seriously involved. talking about 'handlers' like hes an FBI snark! teehee

From the outside, indeed - EVE Online used to be the most fascinating game I had never played, only read about. Once you play it though, it suddenly stops being fascinating altogether. Maybe after a few years invested in it things change, but getting there from scratch hardly qualifies as fun.
