Raid Role
Mage is your classic ranged damage dealer and brings many tools to a raid environment, Historically at least one mage spec has always performed well. its a versatile class bringing both single target damage and cleave/AoE. it also has many uses beyond this, ice block is great for cheesing mechanics especially when combined with cold snap for the second charge, for un immunable mechanic cheesing we bring cauterise. we also bring probbably the greatest range and variety of crowd control effects in the game, from a simple polymorph prepull to a dragonsbreath interupt and all the icy wonder inbetween if your attracting unwanted attention call in a mage :D. our interupt while on a 24 second CD and usually invvolving wrecking a fireball cast is still a solid ultility made all the better with its 40yd range and ofc who can forget spellsteal allowing us to grab some great buffs while denying them to our enemies.

In reguards to preperation and education Icy Veins is my go to baseline website for class info. while it may not delve deep into the serious theorycrafting that goes on in wow its a great starting point and pretty much all you need for base play (I historically end up levelling one of every class to max lvl for.... fun? :D and this site gives you pretty much everything you need to throw that toon you fancy playing for a bit around mythic dungeons normal/heroic raids etc).
The class forums on Mmo-champion can yield some very useful information and more (found an amazing feral druid TMW suite on there a couple days ago.. whomever built it deserves a freaking medal!)
For classes i have decided to play seriously (i.e. Mage, Vengance DH and holy pala so far this xpac) my first step is to find a decent and popular theorycrafting forum for the class (E.G. Fluiddruid, Altered-Time) as these are a great source of consistently updated information (E.g. talent/trinket sims) and in many if not all cases if you have a question about your class someone has asked it and someone has answered.
In reguards to Gearing/BIS list/identifying an upgrade, my first question would be. does it have crit? the whole crit? and nothing but the crit? :P. on a more serious tone however with the current WF/TF/Mythic 9001/socket etc making a consise BIS list is next to impossible. my first step is to identify "items of note" from loot lists then kill the boss that drops it repeatedly while praying to RNJesus for a decent lvl drop (wtb 925+socket+avoidance/leech thumb ring please <3) the websites and forums i spoke of before are again a great resource in this reguard especially when it comes to trinket sims, however one must bear in mind that comparison sims are generally simmed on a ST low movement boss with all trinkets of the same ilvl, so that has to be kept in mind.
other than the resources listed above and common sense the only real way to tell if an item/talent/apache helicopter is an upgrade for you is to sim it yourself (or find someone willing to sim it for you), or take that new trinket for a spin.

Your Spec
Fire Weapon 924 ilvl (x3 900 relics) 54 Traits
I chose fire as it performs solidly in all forms of content and is great fun, for a caster it has relatively fast paced reactive gameplay and is a breath of fresh air compared to feral which i mained up until Legion. Pyroblast... it does... things... to me ;)

In reguards to talent choices fire is in a great place at the moment with the flexibility of its talent tree, allowing me to customise my build depending on the content/encounter i am playing. a quick overview would look something like....

(not including "dead" talents as a discription is not really relevant)
Lvl 15: Pyromaniac/Conflag: while Pyromaniac is better for absoloutely maximising your ST damage it has a terrible habit of proccing when you dont want it too and not proccing when you do, causing Conflag to be the go to talent in this tier, it is very close on ST and far ahead on Cleave/AoE.

Lvl 30: shimmer is the only Dps increasing talent in this tier as it allows you to blink without interuppting your cast

Lvl 45: Mirror image/Rune of power/Incanter's flow. for raiding its a choice between mirror image and RoP with mirror pulling ahead ST and RoP higher on cleave/AoE. however they are very close and high movement enocounters etc can push mirror ahead even with cleave. (on a side note MI scales quite well with haste so this tier can be reasonably gear dependant) Incanters flow, while not part of any serious raid setup is a very nice passive option for questing etc.

Lvl 60: Alextrasza's fury/Flame On. As i have the fire legendary head this tier is pretty self explanatory AF for AoE/Cleave, Flame On for ST :D

Lvl 75: Frenetic Speed is the go to here, providing the only dps increase as it gets you out of the fire in into a good casting position faster.

Lvl 90: Living Bomb/Unstable Magic/Flame Patch. Living Bomb nuff said. Unstable magic is the ST talent of choice here as it gives fireball a chance to do a little extra damage. Flame patch is the best talent here for sustained lowish target cleave (e.g. P3 bota HC)

Lvl 100: Cinderstorm/Meteor. CIS is god tier for sustained AoE/Cleave and can be strong in ST however its a pain in the ass to aim on some encounters. Meteor is the go to for ST as with some setup it can do large amounts of burst damage, however it takes a small while to land. if the boss is moved during this window all the damage is wasted. it also shares its damage between targets, severely limiting its AoE potential.

Off-specs and Alternative characters
As frost is performing very well at the moment i am actively persuing gear/AP for it. however unfortuately due to personal reasons i started the expansion late and then rerolled classes a few weeks in my main focus thoughout the expansion has been catching my fire spec and skills up to a mythic standard. as i feel i have reached a reasonable level of gear and competance i am now working on bringing frost up to par. although due to the gear dependance on frost (i have FAR to much mastery atm) and the fact that fire is the only mage loot spec that cant drop frost relics -_-....... its a pain in the ass :D

As for alts. my alts of note are..

Kaserian (Vengance DH)

Guild History
Soldiers of Lordaeron. Late WoTLK. Guild died.
Homeland. Start of Cata to DS. Left to persue heroic raiding.
Immortality. DS until Legion. Guild died at the start of BRF.
Pebblelanche. not a guild but a steady openraid group raiding heroics and mythics when available Xrealm.
Sushi. Unfortunately it appears we are going to be unable to progress mythic for the forseeable future and as i pay for WoW with real money and only really play to raid, this is "forcing" for lack of a better word, me to persue other options

Raid availability
I can maintain a close to 100% attendance ratio, the only caviat being i am a father and kiddo emergencys take prioroty (this has yet to happen but something you should be aware of)
