Who is your character?
Tynari - Fire Mage
http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/character/d ... i/advanced

Who are you?
Just call me Oysi. I'm 20 years old from Norway.

Miscellaneous
I already applied to this guild as a tank (Oysi - Guardian Druid), but I withdrew my application due to essentially bad timing irl for joining a guild. I am back here applying again, only this time as a ranged dps. Most of the things I said previously, they still apply so I will copy paste a lot. For the sake of readability, I am highlighting any relevant new additions with a mage color. I hope that's ok.

To which Raid Group are you Applying?
RG1

Experience
In vanilla and TBC I did some raiding but it was only the first few raids. I didn't spend so much time on the pc as I was literally just a little kid. I started raiding pretty seriously in Wrath, although raiding on and off and stopped playing right after ICC came out. Didn't play during Cata or MoP. I came back in WoD, and did Highmaul and BRF heroic. I dipped my toes into HFC but by that point the guild disbanded and all my friends had quit playing WoW so I stopped as well.

Now in Legion I haven't been in a guild yet, as I did not know if I would play very seriously. At this point I'm very happy with how the expansion has been going, and I want to start raiding more seriously. I managed to pug 7/7 Heroic Emerald Nightmare & 10/10 Heroic Nighthold on the second week of their releases. I didn't get down ToV quite as fast as I had surgery to get my appendix removed, which was right after the raid released so I decided to take it easy for a while. Right now after having killed heroic Gul'dan 9 times on my druid, and 1 time on my mage I find myself left without content to progress on, which is why I want to join a guild.

In Wrath I was a Paladin Tank. In WoD I started as a Hunter but quickly swapped to a Monk Tank for the guild. In Legion I've been playing mostly 5 classes, which are Druid Tank, Fire Mage, Monk Tank/DPS, DH Tank, and now recently a Paladin Tank/Heal.

Raid Role
As a ranged dps my goal is to do as much dps as possible while also doing things like eating cake and soaking orbs, etc... I used to play a hunter for this very reason. Everyone would always give the job to the hunters, and I very much enjoy doing the extra stuff. Also, I am usually very quick to understand tactics and I pay attention to the raid as a whole so I tend to chip in with helpful information where I can. I judge my performance based on how much dps I do and how I can make the fight easier for the rest of the players. When I die I will use deathnote to figure out why, in order to prevent that from happening again. After the raid I will check logs to get a better picture of what happened all around. For the most part I keep myself updated on my class through my own theorycrafting and experimentation. Obviously there are sometimes things I miss or get wrong, and for those times it's very handy to look up things online or ask others in class discords (or ask other people in the guild).

Your Spec
Fire Mage, 45 traits.

The rotation isn't really a rotation because it's based around charges of Fire Blast and Phoenix Flames, and I can change the way I use them. On the opener I spend everything, but after that I can choose to save them up for things like adds, priority targets, or even for slightly more movement (while doing damage). The crux of it is, though, is to get 2 crits in a row in order to get an instant pyroblast/flamestrike.

Stat priority is a bit weird for fire mage, because it depends on what kind of fight it is and what kind of legendaries you have. Although the foundation of the entire spec is critical strike. Anything with crit on it is really good. After that it is Haste for single target and Mastery for AoE.

For talents there is pretty much a single target spec and an AoE spec. The AoE spec is what I currently have. The single target spec is the same except with Mirror Image instead of Rune of Power, and Unstable Magic instead of Living Bomb. There are some choices to be made such as Pyromaniac instead of Conflagration for single target, Alexstraza's Fury instead of Flame On for AoE, Flame Patch instead of Living Bomb for AoE, and Cinderstorm instead of Meteor for AoE.

Off-specs and Alternative characters
Right now I have 15 traits in both frost and arcane. Needless to say, I haven't exactly been playing them a lot. I want to focus primarily on Fire and I want to get legendaries for Fire. That said, I know frost is very strong for single target right now. If frost is able to perform considerably better even with fewer traits (would have to level it to 35 at least), then I would not be opposed to playing that.

My alts worth mentioning are:

Oysi - Druid - 904/913 ilvl
http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/character/d ... i/advanced

Yirathel - Brewmaster/Windwalker Monk - 898 ilvl
http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/character/d ... l/advanced

Nerim - Holy/Protection Paladin - 887 ilvl
http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/character/d ... m/advanced

Zhany - Vengeance Demon Hunter - 884 ilvl
http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/character/d ... y/advanced

The others are 110 Rogue, 110 Hunter, 100 DK, 100 Warrior.

Communication
I have no problem using my microphone. I would very much enjoy using these forums to discuss potential tactics.

Your UI
http://i.imgur.com/7LOk71q.jpg

The core UI is my own personal UI addon which I started making in WoD and have been adding to ever since. It replaces or changes pretty much all the default UI. I guess the unusual part would be right above my actionbars I have my own personal resource display, which shows health and mana like usual. In the center it shows 10 circles that do an animation depending on if I have heating up, hot streak, or nothing. It also shows how many fire blast and phoenix flames charges I have. The interrupt tracker is a part of my own UI addon which tracks interrupt cds and shows me if people hit or miss their interrupt, but I usually keep it minimized for raiding.

Apart from that I also use DBM & Skada. ExRT for tracking raid cooldowns. DeathNote for examining how I or other people died.

Guild History
I don't remember the names of the guilds I raided in pre-WoD, but in WoD I raided with Heroic Knights which was later renamed to Nightfire. It was a Heroic raiding guild. I left the guild because after HFC came out it was crumbling and having problems getting people to show up for raids. As a result the guild leader (and raid leader) made some really questionable decisions both with the guild and during raid which essentially disbanded the guild. I have not raided with a guild in Legion yet.

Raid availability
I should have no problem keeping to these times.

I have two questions, why you use Icon of Rot? How do you evaluate trinkets?

Well, I don't have a lot of trinkets right now. In fact, I have 3. 890 Erratic Metronome. 890 Icon of Rot. 885 Fury of the Burning Sky. Erratic Metronome is just insane. It procs all the time and also gives me 1.9k mainstat. It's absurdly good. As for the other two, what I found is that Fury of the Burning Sky has a much better proc. Like 2-3 times better, in terms of damage. However the stat it provides (mastery) is almost useless compared to what Icon of Rot provides (crit) in terms of singletarget. Also, I need a certain amount of crit to get the spec working. When I go down to values like 50% it starts to get a bit grim. Icon of Rot is not an ideal trinket by any means, but I don't have a lot of options right now.

As for evaluating trinkets, I see what other people have tested, what other people have theorized. I don't exactly trust simulations, especially regarding trinkets. As they are very often wrong about things like procs per minute and how the trinket deals damage. I know that's an unpopular opinion these days, but that's my opinion.

You refer to other people testing and theorizing - you surely must realize that their tests are based on the very simulations you claim not to trust.

You're missing out on a lot of context - doing the simulations yourself lets you control the scenario and adds the benefit of testing the trinkets with your particular setup.

When in doubt I strongly recommend simming yourself :)

I understand you might not have other trinkets. That's fine.

Do not take it as a personal thing but i'm just genuinely curious what is your resources that are better then simulations. I can think of some but i would like to know what you think.

In short: Actual in-game testing.

Obviously if I don't have the trinkets then there's not much I can do but speculate. At which point simulations are better than nothing. But even then I'd rather take the word of some other mages who have actually tried out various things instead of blindly trusting simulations. I fail to see how this is unreasonable, especially when it comes to trinkets. It's an objective fact that the trinkets for simulationcraft are based around "1.5 doesn't seem right, so I'm making it 1.2 for now" for things like proc rate. Or "this effect can actually crit, suddenly making it one of the best trinkets." It's all just guessing around. And that's not even taking into account the inherent problems with simulations in the first place.

If it's a problem that I don't blindly follow simulations, then I'm sorry but I'm not going to change my opinion on that any time soon.

Not following simulations blindly is not unreasonable. It's perfectly reasonable. You can use them not-blindly, with fixed API or just setting proper fight length, number or targets and so on. Its highly customizable. Sure you can't do perfect reflection of actual fights but you can be close enough to get important data.

Anyways, we gonna pass your app to our Mage expert and i get back to you when he will give opinion about trialing. Thanks for your time and answers!
