Is the 0.5 set really worth bothering with ?

Post by Aeryn » 22 Sep 2006, 14:42

Hey guys

wanted to get peoples opinions on this since i know some people are right in the middle of it. Im currently at the 45baron with aeryn and crichton hasnt even started yet.

What concerns me is that in a recent interview, the big fellah at Blizz said along the lines of "the tier3 set will last you well into the expansion" which suggests that lower tiers & dungeon sets will get very quickly replaced by quest rewards/instance drops in BD which could in theory only be a couple of months away. This seems to be backed up by Sil's recent reporting aswell.

I have to say given how much of a pain (not to mention cost )the upgrade quests are, im pretty much tempted not to bother anymore.

waddya think ??

(so glad ive not been an MC/BWL junkie - those peeps are gonna be a bit pissed)

Yes, tier 0.5 will be somewhat obsoleted now since we're starting molten core, and the tier 1 stuff will be available for looting. Of course it requires lots of runs + luck at the rolls, but still.

I was advocating tier 0.5 stuff mostly because

1) those *are* attainable even if you're not a active raider, even with PuGs, some part (bracers) are even soloable
2) At least some time ago, it was my impression that Tiers 1-3 will not be possible since RC is not exactly a raiding guild (ZG and AQ20 ok, but MC requires 40 people - well, now we have even a bigger raid alliance)
3) That 45-min Baron run is a true challenge :)

Compare yourself:

One thing is also the Burning Crusade, which will feature Tier 4 and Tier 5 armor sets. Since it also features around 20-man raid instances, those will be very much attainable with VARC raids.

I will personnally try to complete Tier 0,5 stuff now since I'm already at part three (Just need shoulders from LBRS).

Basically I'd advice:

If you're not into raids at all (or not very much), even in BC era: Get the tier 0.5, it's attainable with 5-man groups.

If you're not into 40-man raids, but ok with VARC stuff (20-man), think on whether you should go for Tier 0.5 while waiting for Burning Crusade. In BC you'll probably get Tier 4/5 stuff eventually.

If you're ok with MC raids, consider dropping Tier 0.5 chasing.

I'm still wondering how 'easy' those 25-man instances in BC will be if you're not in tier 1-3 stuff mostly. I hope they make those instances more based on skill than equipment.

My best advice would be to check the upgraded stuff carefully and see how it compares to other items that you could get in less stressful and expensive circumstances.

Tru is now up to 6/8 of the upgraded parts and although they aren't much of an increase I'm pretty pleased with them as they are attainable whereas spots on raids for rogues are always hard to come by.

The druid upgraded ones are even better stat wise so I'll keep Celsan going through them quite happily.

We have a few people now who know the 45 run well and could help many of the rest of you complete it if need be and I think most seem to quite enjoy the challenge of it.

Its funny you should say that about the druid upgrades Cel. Granted with the bonuses, the feralheart set would be better from a healing point of view (even if Int & Spi are less ) but a pure feral set would surely suit better for ferals. Im definitely not bothering with 0.5 for crichton especially given that he has got better stuff from a couple of tribute runs (and im still needing my magister pants anyway) but i think i'll wait for BC to carry on with Aeryn.

And as has been pointed out, our new alliance for MC seems to be going well and with a bit of luck we can all pick up some tier1's anyway :)

Probably, although I do think they said it wouldn't be so much. We'll see.

My personal opinion: the tier 0 and 0.5 sets are nice-looking and have some nice set bonuses, but do a few Zul'Gurub runs and you will be able to get armour that is much better.
