I'd *love* to be able to play completely without mods. This situation has improved with recent patches: A Year ago I had to use lots of mods to make the interface bearable (First version of WoW: C'mon, only ONE actionbar?).

Over the years, the number of mods in my system has gone down quite a lot, but these, IMHO, are still necessary:

Nowadays, I use CTRA because, altough lots of the functionality has been included in the vanilla game, makes things somewhat easier in raid.

Also, I use trackerassist, which is kind of must for hunters and allows me to target and track items on the minimap with a bit more detail than just a name (and automatically broadcast that information to party/raid).

Then there is MyRoleplay/FlagRSP which I added recently upon joining an RP server.

And finally, of course, GEM.

I also would use The Gatherer for marking all those mineral deposits/bushes on the map but my char is not herbalist or miner, so no farmable resources for me.

I think there were about two people who used to be vanilla.
Now they've installed at least one mod, so I guess the rest will follow. :P

I use lots of mods myself, to the point that the standard 48MB is not enough anymore and I've been cranking it up. Ofcourse, I have a mod cleanup coming up I can't postpone for much longer. :P

I use the CTmod interface additions which makes controlling my char enjoyable, contrary to the vanilla blizzard interface! (I have come to hate the normal blizzard interface, just as I hate having to play e.g. dune 2 with its crappy (but modern in its time) interface.

Really, you can compare it to dune 2, in which you can't control more than one unit at a time (can you believe you put up with that in the past?). ;)
That's just the blizzard vanilla interface in my opinion. Rubbish! :P

Blizzard did a great job on making the mod interface for mod writers really easy to use and customize and that's partly what makes WoW such a good game and sets it apart from the others! The lua system is so nice.

I'm no fan of vanilla as well and enjoy Titanpanel, CTRA, Auctioneer, Scrolling Combat Texts, Theorycraft, Damagemeter, AllInOneBag and some little ones (for example the one which puts the pickupscreen directly under your mousetip) very much.

Btw, Dune 2 was an excellent game - for its time 8)

I found only atlas to have stopped working. The rest of my mods seemed to still work.

I use a bare minimum of mods. I have one that adds coords to the map and another that displays the level of quests.

But, as my orc is now raiding Molten Core I feel myself being pushed to use some RaidAssist type thing - which just feels a little like cheating.

You should try atlas with bossloot extra and ctmod then sometime. Simple things, like putting the bars on the spots you want them and e.g. putting the tooltip on top of the screen make WoW so much more enjoyable.
